Story from Marek Cavojsky, Summer 2017

I was already late afternoon, when I got the message that final decision is that we will try to summit, I couldn’t believe it.

I looked out of the window and I couldn’t see more than hundred meters to the distance. I had been raining from time to time whole day, but the forecast was that it should clear up for whole night. Forecast was right, at 8 PM when we finally started it was already cloudless with a beautiful sunset.

It took us almost three hours till we ascended the first thousand meters to the fist snowfield, but nobody was in hurry because we knew that it was gonna be a long night. Moreover, some of my friends went directly after the work. Snowfield was like never-ending but when we came to first crevasses it had started to be really exciting.

At 4 AM we reached the summit of Hvanadalshnukur 2110 Meter- the highest peak of Iceland. Sun was just little above horizon and I remember faces of all my companions alighted with happiness. Luckily because of crevasses we were attached to the rope so on the way down I could have walked with my eyes closed from time to time 🙂 At 9 30 we came back to car park. GPS was shoving 28 km so another amazing night adventure was over…
